Drink for Health

A lot of the focus, with regards to nutrition, is as to what you eat, but everything you drink is equally as important. If you drink the suitable things in the correct portions, you’ll see your overall health improve significantly.

Water is the most important drink for health

You may know already this, but water is the central component of a healthy diet. Your body is composed of more than 70 percent water. Not obtaining adequate water each day may cause your body to believe that it is hungry instead, which can result in over-eating. You need to try to drink as much water as you can each day. It is most beneficial to drink no less than 64 ounces of water daily. If you have a tough time drinking this much water, you should purchase a steel water bottle to help you have access to water regardless of where you happen to be. Not only will drinking enough water improve your general health, it will also show via your skin and hair, which rely on moisture. Continue reading »

Health Nutrition

Many people do not take the time to learn the fundamentals of good health nutrition. If you have made a decision to boost your nutrition and live a more healthy lifestyle, then it is time to look into what is true and what isn’t regarding proper nutrition. This information provide you with what you should understand.

Health Nutrition Facts

Regardless of what tricks or gimmicks you might have tried, there is just one rule for maintaining a healthy bodyweight. In order to stay the same weight, lose weight or put on weight you need to look at the amount of calories you eat in relation to the number of calories you burn off every day. There are lots of user friendly online calorie calculators that will help you find out the amount of calories you need to eat for each of these situations. The number you find will take into consideration your gender, your height, and your amount of daily activity. Proper bodyweight is crucial to your overall health nutrition.

Carbohydrates, protein and fat are the three fundamental macronutrients that your body requires to function. Carbohydrates are the primary fuel that the body uses. Protein is essential for growth, tissue restoration and building muscle. Fat is crucial for energy, vitamin assimilation and healthy cell membranes. The amount needed by the body for each of these macronutrients are available in the USDA guidelines for health nutrition and vary based on how old you are.

Carbohydrates that are best for your body are found in whole grains, fruits and, in lesser quantities, in seeds and nuts. Protein is found in lean meat, chicken, fish and cheese. Nutritious fats include those present in avocados and olive oil. Avoid the unhealthy fats found in butter, snacks and fried foods. Continue reading »

cranberry chia smoothieBecause losing and controlling weight seems to be an always popular conversation with many people everyday, easily prepared but still healthy foods like smoothies and nutritional supplements such as Chia seed are becoming more popular and well known. Most of the countless research studies done on diet and weight can be reduced to the recommendations to follow a well balanced diet that includes:

  • Protein
  • Fruits and Vegetables
  • Good carbohydrates
  • Low intake of fat

Eaten regularly, and in the right amounts, a diet with these elements will slow digestion which in turn increases metabolism. This healthy combination of foods, in conjunction with a supplement like Chia seed almost guarantees a diet rich with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which all help control disease while promoting healthy skin and bones.

Fruits and vegetables also help cleanse our body through a process known as detoxification. Detoxification is the natural metabolic process the human body employs to clean the toxins out of the system which, in turn, promotes overall health.  Unlike the chemical “detox” products being sold, fruits and vegetables perform the same service naturally and just as effectively.
Still, the challenge for many is they are not sure how to sift through all the information available  to build menus that include all of these components for tasty meals.

Certainly everyone has heard thehomily that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” and it is very true. At the beginning of the day, your body needs fuel. But many people will skip breakfast because they are bored with the same old cereals, or don’t want to take the time to prepare anything. Or, equally as bad, they hit the drive through on the way to work and pick up a sausage, egg, and cheese cholesterol bomb only to find they are tired and lethargic and hungry half way to lunch.

On the other hand making a sensible breakfast with fruits and other nutritious foods part of the morning routine has been shown to help lose weight and promote general overall health because of the fuel provided by the  calcium, fruits, and fiber.

Fruit and vegetable smoothies are a sensible and increasingly popular breakfast drink that are easy to make, delicious, and are a great source of the nutrients we all need such as proteins, omega 3′s and vitamins to both boost our immune system and promote general overall health.

Low-fat milk, soy milk and yogurt are all dairy products to mix well with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to render meals that taste great, are good for you and are surprisingly low cost as well. The fruits and vegetables ingredients can be fresh or frozen and you can add healthy meal supplements like Chia to your recipe as well

Here is a fruit smoothie recipe you might like to try for breakfast or a snack that will help you jump control your weight and improve your overall health. This recipe includes an ounce of ground Chia seed for additional benefits.

Cranberry Delight Smoothie Recipe

1 cup of cold low-fat cranberry juice
1 medium orange (peeled, sections only)
1 medium banana (cut in pieces)
1 cup of cold strawberries (fresh or frozen)
2 cups low-fat yogurt (you can choose: vanilla, strawberry, orange, banana or plain)
1 ounce ground Chia seed
Ice (about 8-12 cubes)

In your blender mix all the ingredients, starting with about 6 ice cubes. Sometimes if you are using frozen strawberries or the orange is very juicy, you won’t need as many ice cubes.

A high protein weight loss diet is defined by the percentage of calories that come from protein. In a balanced diet that does not focus on protein, typically 10% to 15% of calories come from protein. In diets that focus on the amount of protein, this percentage can rise to as much as 30-35%.

By restricting carbohydrates a high protein diet can cause what is known as “ketosis”. Ketosis is what happens when the body begins to burn its own stored fat for energy. This will cause weight loss but ketosis can also cause headaches, nausea, irritability in mood, and other problems.

Despite these potential problems, high protein diets are a constant favorite for a couple of reasons:

  • They promote relatively quick weight loss
  • The high amounts of protein eaten help dieters to feel full for a longer time

Unfortunately, because the weight lost during the diet is somewhat unnatural, the loss is frequently regained shortly after the diet ends. Continue reading »
